Classroom Games

Occasionally, your child will come home and tell you that he/she played a game in music class.  It’s true!  We all encorporate fun, educational games as a part of teaching, reviewing and sometimes even assessing skills learned in class.  Below are a few of the games that we play, what skills they reinforce and where to purchase them if you’d like to.

Jump Start Music

- Echo, rhythm, matching pitch, instrument identification

Music Ace I/II

- Pitch recognition, phrasing, ear training, sharps and flats, key signatures, harmony, melody, intervals, note naming, composition, keyboard skills, scales, chords, half and whole steps

Staff Game

- Notes on the staff (Treble and Bass)

Fishie Game

- Solfege (vocal musical alphabet), intervals and pitch recognition (ti-do)

4 Corners

- Recognizing instrument families and categorizing instruments

Instrument BINGO

- Recognizing instruments by name, picture and sound

Jazz Genres

- Using criteria to differentiate jazz genres

We may also occasionally watch a video which will reinforce the curriculum.  We love to find as many opportunities to engage the students as possible, and some videos (usually by Discovery Kids or other educational media companies) may be able to reinforce an idea in a different way than we can.
