Curriculum Information by Marking Period

Benchmarks are assessed in the marking periods in which they occur.  If a performance occurs in a given marking period, those benchmarks may be assessed in the periods around it.

1st Marking Period

Echo Short Phrases

Echo short phrases with accurate rhythm in various tempi

Echo patterns on classroom instruments

Sing Following Conductor Cues

Sing and play tempo as indicated by conductor’s gestures

Crescendo/Decrescendo

2nd Marking Period

Verbalize appropriate behavior for various settings

Articulate an awareness of appropriate behavior in school and professional settings but not always able to articulate it.

Audience behavior at in-school and other concert settings

Create appropriate mood by adding sound effects

Same/Different

Identify phrases, call and response, solo and chorus, and same/different

Evaluate music using a rubric

Use basic guidelines for evaluating performances and compositions

Contrast pop, classical, and jazz

Distinguish between aural examples of pop music, classical music, and jazz

3rd Marking Period

Read Iconic Rhythm Patterns
